Children at Chipping Hill

Starting school is a major milestone in a young child's life and at Chipping Hill we want children to make the transition from pre-school child to pupil as smoothly as possible. Children settle quickly into school routine as they realise they are in a safe, happy environment where they are genuinely cared for. Nurtured within our caring environment, they soon progress academically. By the time the children leave us to begin the junior stage of their education, they are fluent readers and writers, competent Mathematicians and have the confidence to tackle many different tasks.

Right from the start children take part in every aspect of school life. There are outings, visiting speakers and school plays in which all children take part. The children also have a voice in the school as classes elect two members to sit on the School Council. The Council meets twice a term to discuss various aspects of school life. Even the youngest child has something to contribute. Year 2 'Playleaders' help the younger children during playtimes and encourage them to play games together. The school also runs several clubs during the lunch break and after school.

We believe that our school is part of the wider community and we therefore involve local residents and organisations in many of our school events. The children often walk to places in the locality which are of special interest and perform to local residents.

We set high standards of expectation for our children, academically and socially. We constantly stress the importance of consideration for other people’s feelings, for good manners and sensible behaviour. These values create a calm atmosphere where children and staff can work happily and confidently together.

Acts of kindness, thoughtfulness, politeness and helpfulness are recognised and praised. At the Friday afternoon assembly, we present two boys and two girls with ‘Chipping Hill dolls’ together with presentations of our school cups and shield. These are rewards for hard work, progress, friendship, initiative, determination, attitude, ‘sparkle’ and outstanding courage. They will take them home to show their families. Certificates are also awarded for good behaviour or good manners and attendance.

Life is extremely full at Chipping Hill but at the heart of everything we do are the children and their needs.
